Control Your ID takes proactive steps to safeguard your identity along with our identity monitoring, information and identity restoration services. Together these form the patent-pending PRIME benefits of Control Your ID that make us unique. No protection is 100% effective however and if you do become a victim of identity theft then we will spend up to $1,000,000 to restore your good name and reimburse you for approved out of pocket expenses if your membership includes our expense reimbursement service.
If you are a member in good standing and believe you have been struck by identity theft during your membership, you should contact us immediately. We can work with you to verify whether identity theft has occurred and if it has, we will assign a dedicated case manager to you who will do virtually all the restoration work on your behalf. Apart from informing us of the fraud, you will need to authorize a limited power of attorney so that we can act on your behalf and file a police report if you haven’t done so already. You will usually spend less than an hour on these initial steps and then you can relax. In most cases, your name can be restored in about four to six weeks.
The term “Managed Restoration” describes what most companies provide. It sounds good until you realize that they are managing you while you do the work. That’s right. If you do get to speak to a live person, you’ll probably be given a to-do list and some instructions on how you can dig yourself out of this mess – if you’re lucky. Federal government research indicates that the average victim will spend $1200 and often six months or longer to work on identity restoration activities. There are some things our $1,000,000 guarantee does not pay for including lost wages and the use of other professionals to work on your recovery efforts unless authorized by Control Your ID. These restrictions don’t limit your protection because we do the work for you. You won’t need to take time off work and you won’t need to hire extra help because that’s our job.
